On 12 October 2008, Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur had started its journey. There are six Faculties and 20 departments now.

JHANTU

Sharfuddin Ahmed Jhantu is the first mayor of Rangpur City Corporation. Jhantu is also member of Awami League advisory committee of Rangpur. In 2001 he left JP and joined AL.
